For a long time the word JOY had a kind of religious connotation in my mind. It mostly made me think of Christmas and big churches with stained glass windows and I just couldn’t connect. Flash forward to today and the time I have spent focusing on understanding and finding joy. Joy isn’t happiness, although the words are often used interchangeably. Happiness is often related to external factors and often hinges on outcomes that are not in our control. It’s still great, but it’s no JOY. We all come pre-loaded with joy. And yes, we can lose touch with it, but it is there and you can activate it and sustain it. I’m working on that now. Sometimes I do a great job and sometimes I give people the finger. That said, understanding joy, what makes me joyful, how I can bring it out in others and how I can bolster my own has changed me considerably. I’ve come to identify it when I feel it.
