BEGINNINGS

Life has been moving a mile a minute lately and I have got a whole slew of adventures on the horizon. 

Recent conversations with a friend inspired me to write a poem for the first time in a very long time. It was like a dam breaking open. A few weeks later, I decided while sitting at work, drunk on caffeine, to pick up a pen, and my blank notebook began to fill. 

So here we are. I'll be sharing some words and more.

I am definitely more Sunset than Sunrise.  There's something about the darkness that comes along with the Sun setting.  The excitement of the Moon rising and being able to stare into the stars.  There is something so beautiful about the night, that cannot be replaced by the day.  The thought of people reuniting, the   realization that you're just hours away from dream world.  A world that I love to bits, yet struggle to reach to every night. This warped, over exhausted mind. I  find it easier to look at the Sun as it leaves, unintimidated, sad yet calm and somewhat promising - than I do to look at it when it arrives all fierce and over confident. Maybe some of us relate to darkness more. Life’s book has been a slow read lately.  Everything written with the intent to pause for reflection, yet filled with telling narratives.  This unwelcome change of pace won’t last forever, there’s always another memory waiting to be created soon enough. But for now, I’ll take these slow days with patience and joy.  They’ve been pretty lovely.

The joy of hugs and embraces during this season that our world is in - of separation, quarantines, self-isolation, lock-downs; stirs something inside me. My heart aches for those who feel like they're walking this season alone.  We may be surrounded, even overwhelmed, by much fear, anxiety, longing, grief and discomfort. But these are circumstances that can be endured and overcome, not alone, but together. May we be overwhelmed instead by weaving together through effort, love, action, and hope around the world.  So though a physical hug and touch may not be within reach to those you want to reach out to, stretch your warm words, and wrap a dear friend or even a stranger, in the embrace of your words of kindness and light.  I've been blessed to find mine, seek yours. Let the light of others shine. And if given the opportunity, be the one that holds them up for all to see.
